What is Immersive Entertainment?

From the earliest cavemen and women telling stories around the campfire, to ancient theatre, travelling illusionists wowing audiences with magic tricks, to the advent of radio, cinema, television and the internet - humans have always told stories through creativity and technology.

The next game-changing collision of creativity and tech is upon us. A new frontier that brings cinematic experiences from the 2D screens into the 3D world. It's called Immersive Entertainment.

Where does Weta Workshop fit?

Whether it be genre-based story worlds, themed lands, interactive experiences, travelling exhibitions, or live immersive shows, Immersive Entertainment is about harnessing traditional artisan and craftmanship techniques with new technology developments and combining it with creative excellence to create new types of entertainment in spatial settings.

Weta Workshop is at the forefront of this bold new frontier. Armed with our 8-year partnership with Mixed Reality technology company Magic Leap, we're taking our recent successes - among them, Gallipoli and the charming travelling exhibition Bug Lab - and growing our creative team to invent, develop, design and produce Immersive Entertainment Experiences (IEE).

We want to shift the way we experience stories. To change how we connect with characters. To open up fantastical new worlds. We want our clients, partners, guests, and fans alike to ponder what they saw and ask: “How did they do that?!”
